Community Justice would like to invite you to volunteer for their first National Lobby Day to End Community Violence in Washington, D.C on June 21, 2023, and the morning of June 22, 2023.
Purpose: To lobby Members of Congress to take action to address community violence, one of the largest driving forces behind the gun violence epidemic in our country. Survivors, service providers, activists and concerned community members will participate in a series of meetings to share their personal stories and the urgency to fund community violence intervention and prevention programs.
Legislation: The primary legislation that we hope to gain supporters for is the Break the Cycle of Violence Act, a bill that would invest $5 billion in community violence intervention and prevention programs throughout the nation. The bill may also be re-introduced in Congress during the same week of our Lobby Day. Other CVI-related legislation that may be elevated is the Bipartisan Solution to Cyclical Violence Act, which would fund $10 million to hospital-based violence intervention programs. We are also advocating for community violence intervention and prevention funding to be included in this year's FY24 appropriations legislation.
Once you sign-up using the google form below, a member of Community Justice will reach out to you to discuss next steps.
