The Sacred Heart Global Citizen Program is a thematic program aimed toward an international group of young adults and/or early career professionals working in the area of social justice and social transformation.  Participants represent a broad range of industries and cultural contexts.  They participate in a hands-on experience where reflection, analysis and community are key program components. Past sample themes have included "Immigration" and "Ecological Transformation Through Spirituality."

The objective of the training program is to provide participants with an opportunity to:

• analyze the global issues that affect local context(s);
• reflect on the meaning of being a Global Citizen today;
• analyze one’s own civic engagement experience and ways to further develop leadership competency areas;
• build on prior leadership training;
• develop a plan for moving a specific project or program forward in their home contexts;
• foster an appreciation of the importance of intercultural dialogue and international partnership in working for social justice; and
• learn new tools and techniques for project development, management and evaluation.

The Stuart Center International Volunteer Program provides young adults ages 18-30 from abroad with a service experience in the US. Typical duration is between 1-3 months with the possibility of 6-month experiences. Volunteers live in one of the designated "welcoming communities" with Religious of the Sacred Heart; engage in a full-time (40 hours/week) service with a justice-based organization; and engage in reflection. Placements are typically in Washington, DC; the New York City metropolitan area; and New Orleans, Louisiana.
