Seeing White (Scene on Radio podcast series)

John Biewen, regular guest Dr. Chenjerai Kumanyika, and a variety of outside voices weave together a podcast series that examines the concept of "whiteness." Often discussions of race end up focusing on non-white people in a way that assumes whiteness as normative, and many assumptions go unchecked. The series covers expansive ground, from the pseudo-science that produced the idea of race in the first place to the ways that these constructed ideas of race have played out in the past and continue to be played out today. It is illuminating, engaging, and highly recommended – one of those rare podcasts that you'll want to listen to multiple times to fully absorb.

Originally released in 2017 and recently broadcast again. Voices include: John Biewen, Dr. Chenjerai Kumanyika, Gwen Westerman, Mary Wingerd, Shannon Sullivan, Chris Julin, Myra Greene, Deena Hayes-Greene, Robin DiAngelo, William “Sandy” Darity, Jr., and others.

The Stuart Center recognizes that racism permeates all sectors of our society and world, in both overt and subtle ways. It is a part of our own national history that requires recognition and reconciliation. We condemn racism in all forms, and stand against all rhetoric and actions that perpetuate unjust systems and erode the fabric of a civil, just and peaceful society. Furthermore, we embrace...
