The Stuart Center stands with all the young people of our nation who take a stand against gun violence. We, too, say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

In the wake of yet another mass shooting at an American school, the leadership of the Society of the Sacred Heart in the Unites States-Canada Province joins its voice to those of the surviving students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and people of good will from all faiths across this country who are demanding an end to the legislative paralysis that prevent common sense gun control from being enacted in this country.
First, I want to thank each one of you throughout the Sacred Heart Family who held me in prayer on February 27th as I joined with 41 other women religious, priests and laypeople in an act of civil disobedience in support of the Dreamers. Although it was my first time ever getting arrested, I found it was a deeply moving experience to spend an entire day engaged in such a well-planned and carefully choreographed act of solidarity.
The Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Office of the Society of the Sacred Heart, Pax Christi International, and the Franciscan Action Network co-hosted a screening of filmmaker Helen Young's “The Priests, the Nuns and the Bomb”, a documentary that depicts the activists, including Catholic nuns and priests, that challenge "the security and legality of America's nuclear weapons", and a presentation of Pope Francis's call to all Catholics for nuclear weapon abolishment.
The Stuart Center for Mission, Educational Leadership & Technology is proud to participate in today's Catholic Day of Action With Dreamers. We ask people of all faiths to pray for and work toward a just and peaceful solution on behalf of Dreamers.
We believe that no one who seeks to study, work and participate in contributing to the good of family, community and our country should live in the shadow of fear.
Human Trafficking experts agree that there is an uptick in human trafficking around big sporting events but they want to caution us not to get lulled into thinking that it is an issue that can be addressed on only one day of the year.
The Society of the Sacred Heart stands with and echoes the Leadership Conference of Women Religious' statement in regards to the Trump administration's decision to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Hondurans.
The Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) is deeply troubled by the decision of the Trump administration to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for more than 57,000 Hondurans. Honduras is the seventh country whose citizens have been stripped of their right to protection by this administration.
A recent gathering of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, held in the Stuart Center's Collins Room, begs us to ask the question: What digital divide?
For the second year in a row Generation Hope selected the Stuart Center to host their Summer Bridge workshop. Over 25 Generation Hope scholarship awardees and their mentors attended two full-day training sessions to help the students – who are also parents of young children – gain study and parenting skills. Generation Hope is a nonprofit organization that helps DC-area teen parents graduate from college by providing them with one-on-one mentoring, tuition assistance, and case management.
We are deeply troubled by government policies that denigrate and demonize immigrants. While remaining realistic about the challenges, we choose to be proactive and hopeful about the future. The best possible outcomes will result through collaboration and partnerships. The Office of Educational Initiatives & Leadership is currently working to promote social justice, human dignity and empowerment of the marginalized in partnership with others.
